Design by: DAO Studio

Introduction

DAO Studio is a design office specializing in residential housing projects.

Practice Perspective

DAO Studio’s practice is not bound by a fixed manifesto. Instead, the studio focuses on projects that align with its design capabilities and aesthetic awareness. This approach maintains flexibility, acknowledging that their creative direction may evolve in the future. Currently, DAO Studio’s designs pursue simplicity of form and functional optimization. These projects are developed to suit local usage habits and Vietnam’s climate, built on a foundation of advanced construction technology and materials.

Design Intent

As part of an event organized by Stonex – Stonelab, this project required a design carved from a single solid stone block measuring 2000mm x 800mm x 500mm. The design draws inspiration from the characteristic curves and strong, solid form of the buffalo, an animal deeply rooted in Vietnamese culture.

The “Bench Trâu” is proposed in two versions (phases) to provide flexibility in application. When arranged modularly, the benches evoke the image of a herd of buffalo moving leisurely. Both versions incorporate convex and concave shapes, allowing the product to be placed against a wall or combined with planters in specific design layouts. Functionally, this 2000 x 800mm bench serves both as a seat and a compact daybed. The head area is supported by a cushion roll, enhancing comfort for users resting under the shade of a planter.
