Introduction

NAQI & Partners is a spatial design studio with a reflective practice on the elements of Time, Nature, Space, Human, and Senses. The studio seeks spatial balance, a state described as transcending stillness. Its work begins from a love for balanced architectural design and meditative thinking, based on the belief that architecture does not stop at form but is also a lived experience. NAQI & Partners aims to create projects that nurture body, mind, and spirit across various scales, from residences and offices to resorts, therapeutic spaces, and meditation environments.

Practice Perspective

This design draws inspiration from guiding users to explore the evolution of materials from the ancient past to the future. The concept is described as “touching the emotion of the ages.” This journey begins with humanity’s earliest resting places, such as a stone or a log, and progresses toward future inventions.

Approach

In terms of space, the design is a simple cubic form created to fit any environment. It is modular and can be reconfigured, transforming from six faces to a single traditional face, allowing it to function as a stool, bedside tab, or side table. In terms of time, each face represents a material slice from different eras, including stone, wood, ceramic, copper, stainless steel, and leather. In terms of the senses, tactile experience is emphasized. Touching the varied surfaces from rough to smooth, warm to cold is intended to evoke sensations not only in the fingertips but also to awaken personal memories.
