Introduction

Red5studio is an interior design company based in Saigon, specializing in residential, apartment, retail, restaurant, hotel, and commercial projects. The studio provides full-service solutions, from the concept development stage through to project completion.

Practice Perspective

The studio’s philosophy is built on three pillars: Observe, Innovate, and Belong. This approach seeks to make spaces “communicate” and bring life into the environment.

“Observe” reflects the view that focusing solely on individual objects misses how everything “converses” to create emotion. Interior design is understood as creating an atmosphere where all elements interact and complement each other, collectively telling a shared story, rather than merely placing objects, colors, or materials side by side.

“Innovate” emphasizes that a beautiful space is not limited to aesthetics. The space must continuously evolve to reflect modern life and the individual character of its users.

Finally, “Belong” holds that design is not merely about form. It is how a space becomes a mirror reflecting personal stories and a place where someone genuinely feels they belong.

Approach

The design spirit of the product is inspired by a familiar scene in Vietnamese life: after a night of drinking, a husband returns home drunk and is often “tossed out” by his wife to lie outside. From this context, the studio chose to explore contrast as the core concept, particularly between strength and softness, between anger and a relaxed state.

This contrast is expressed on multiple levels. The free, sprawling posture suggested in the design contrasts with decisive action. In terms of materials, the softness of a pillow is combined with rigid metal details, symbolizing a complex mood that is at once gentle and weighty. Finally, the overall form of the chair evokes a flame, representing anger, which contrasts with the arrangement of the pillow elements, described as directionless and interwoven, conveying a floating, suspended state.
