Gật gù Chair
Design by: sgnhA Architects

Introduction

sgnhA is an architecture and interior design studio based in Saigon, practicing with a spirit of respecting context, focusing on renovation and restoration rather than demolition and rebuilding. The studio is human-centered, emphasizing local identity, adaptability, and cultural adaptation.

Approach

Inspired by the studio’s practice, this chair design is built around versatility and the liveliness of the object itself. It is designed to encourage interaction, blending, and inclusivity, with its shape defined by the user’s preferred sitting position at any given moment.

With dimensions close to a work chair, it can function as a dining chair or have its seat adjusted to become a lounge chair, accommodating both smaller and larger users. The backrest angle and seat height can be adjusted by the user through the notched joints.

The frame is made of galvanized steel, featuring notched structural lines that both reinforce the frame and give it a dynamic form. Finishing materials include the galvanized steel frame, plywood seat, and a small accent in the form of a ceramic armrest pad. An optional cushion is provided for long reading sessions.
