We are an independent non-profit unit, operating like a museum, but without owning any building, because we believe that everything happening vividly across this beautiful land of Vietnam is entirely worthy of contemplation—and more than enough to help us explain what design truly is to the general public. We do not belong to any organization or individual, but just as any homeless person is often offered a meal or a place to sleep by the kind-hearted people of Vietnam, we are a reflection made visible by the love of communities. Nevertheless, we are still guided by a small group called the Design Committee, consisting of Architects, Designers, Activists, Design and Architecture Curators, … whose mission is to preserve the value of design and develop content through in-depth, temporary, and public-friendly exhibitions. The Museum of Design aims to build experiences and awareness for everyone about the meaning, mission, and power of Design at both national and international levels.
The idea of a Museum of Design as a mobile cultural center was initiated by us right after the Covid pandemic. We have a diverse and frequently updated curatorial team to ensure a wide range of perspectives and constantly redefine every aspect of design. It is, in essence, an open museum that actively reaches people by every possible means. Every year, we typically host three temporary exhibitions and several collaborative ones with other galleries, revolving around three main themes: design, architecture, and lifestyle. These exhibitions and accompanying services are not confined to a single space—this represents our effort to connect and invite all of society’s resources to participate in this platform. Moreover, the presence of specially trained cultural mediators helps visitors engage directly and fully with the content. They are also the ones who document responses and ideas sparked by the museum’s themes. Although the venues are temporary, accompanying services like the Design Store and Design Coffee are always available to everyone, even those who don’t wish to visit the exhibitions. The public can spend time here, meet friends, and hold meetings.
