Museum of Design

We aim to become the first and best design store in Vietnam, where everyone, including international visitors, can purchase exciting design products from Vietnam. Every year, we curate hundreds of design items—from books and magazines to personal accessories, fashion, furniture, lighting, and kitchenware; from children’s items, office supplies, and tech gadgets to reproductions of artworks and collaborations with artists and designers—all to build an extraordinary and engaging product portfolio for the MoD Design Store. If you have a fascinating design product and wish to commercialize it at the MoD Design Store, please send your information to info@museumofdesign.vn with the subject line [PRODUCT FOR DESIGN STORE] and kindly read through our frequently asked questions below.

We don’t have formal criteria for selecting design products, but we are always looking for items that are fresh, creative, and appealing. We receive many product proposals and cannot respond to all, though we strive to review everything.

Is MoD Design Store a shop of the Museum of Design?
Although it has a “family” connection to the Museum of Design, it is not a museum gift shop—it is an independent design store. Besides generating revenue for the Museum of Design, one of our distinct missions is to bring good design to as many people as possible. We can independently reach people who may not be interested in visiting the Museum of Design, yet the store experience may serve as their starting point toward the museum. This relationship is mutual—we also receive natural foot traffic from museum visitors. However, in the future, MoD Design Store may operate independently from the museum, reflecting our ambition to spread design to everyone in a different way.

What is the selection process at the Design Store?
We always work based on real samples (we even bring them home for short-term use), lay them out on a large themed table, and gather around to discuss new product proposals. Our team, including the Design Store staff and several members of the Design Committee, participate in meetings held in different sessions to evaluate and shortlist potential design items. The final result usually comes after a presentation to the management team of the Museum of Design. The important questions always include: Is it useful? Does it solve a problem? Does it use materials or technology in an innovative way? Does it relate to the museum’s “100% Design” collection? Is it educational? And ultimately, will customers buy it? Typically, only about 70% of products make it through this selection process. That said, occasionally a product is chosen through a less conventional route, but we always have more than one reason to commercialize it.

Do award-winning designs and especially TỐT Selections receive priority in the selection process?
They certainly receive slightly higher consideration, but the most important factor is their suitability for MoD Design Store—whether they fill a gap in our product range or whether our customers would want such a product. We are always open to helping commercialize works from independent designers and artists.

Where does the Design Store discover design products?
We frequently attend trade shows or lifestyle fairs, visit local shops, and even travel to handicraft villages to enable chance encounters. With our keen sense and experience, if we find something exciting, we trust our customers will too.

Does the Design Store focus on high-priced design products?
We are not a typical museum souvenir or gift shop with flashy postcards or cute, humorous trinkets. We believe the design product market has evolved—consumers now have broader and more diverse needs for high-quality design goods. We continuously inspire the market with our ability to discover unique finds, and our customers consistently respond well to our bold yet thoughtful recommendations.

What about collaborative works/products with artists or designers?
We often have spontaneous discussions with curators, Design Committee members, or artists/designers who collaborate with the Museum about filling utility gaps in the product catalog or evaluating the feasibility of a transformation. Although it may be as simple as printing an artwork or design onto a T-shirt or handkerchief, we still follow the same selection process as above. No major exceptions are made for such products.

What are the sales processes, logistics, and policies for Design Store partners?
Once a product is selected, we will present a proposal in return to the partner. We always listen to our partners’ aspirations and, depending on the sales strategy, resources, and product characteristics of both sides, we will provide different proposals.

Thank you for your interest in being part of the Design Store.
